Trish from No Art has kindly told us her top 5 most played songs in iTunes / music player of her choice….for our first ever TOP FIVES. More bands to come soon!

1. “Don’t Explain” by Nina Simone

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I tend to play Nina Simone at parties. This happens a lot, particularly when no one is interested, and I’m not sorry for it. If I could track down her cover of Feelings, that would definitely be #1, but for now that’s restricted to my YouTube top 5.

2. “12 Plus Harsh Tanz” by Teeth Mountain

Another track for get-togethers. This works best if you light candles and hand around tambourines, shakers, and pots and pans first. I promise it will never fail you.

3. “My Daddy Rocks Me” by Trixie Smith

I only found this little ditty about a month and a half ago, so it’s been a quick climb to the top. I’d really like to know how this one goes down in awkward moments of sexual tension, if anyone’s game.

4. “The Long and Winding Road” by The Beatles

I’m not a Beatles person so I don’t want to get into any lengthy discussions about who wrote what best. Including them on this list at all is an unfortunate compromise of my usual policy. But the truth is I can listen to this romantic ballad for hours on end.

5. “Oukha Dial Kheir” by Cheikh Ayyad ou Haddou and ensemble

Three minutes of Arabic chanting, yes please. Singing along makes it about 14 times as fun. I think you can track down the compilation that this comes from on UbuWeb – it’s Arabic-inspired music meets audio book. Pure gold.
